Heavy-Duty Drapery Motors

Made for your project

For demanding installations, a direct-drive motor and roller track can provide the capacity needed for substantial drapery and extended travel. Plumridge specifies the complete system around the curtain weight, heading, span and required operation.

Custom specification and quotation. Power, mounting and control compatibility are reviewed before equipment is ordered.

Long-span capability

The referenced direct-drive specification lists a maximum hanging drapery weight of 175 lb and a maximum track length of 65 ft. These are reference maxima for the specified system; track layout, friction, curves, brackets and fabric clearances still require project review.

Theaters and hospitality

Suitable projects may include theater drapery, screening rooms, ballrooms and large architectural openings. We review frequency of use and the actual curtain load before recommending a system. Stage safety curtains and life-safety applications require separately engineered equipment.

Choose the track and heading

The referenced system uses roller-track options for pinch-pleated and compatible wave-style drapery. Track selection also determines whether the heading can conceal the rail and what hanging deduction is required.

Lutron and automation

Potential-free contact closures can link the selected motor to a compatible automation interface. The motor’s stop logic differs from Forest Shuttle stop logic, so the integrator must use the correct model-specific programming.

Curved-track capacity

For the referenced heavy-duty direct-drive system, the supplied curved-system guide lists approximate loads of 120 lb for one or two curves, and 140 lb for a typical bay or continuous curve. Reverse S-shaped bends are not offered for that system in the supplied guide. Final capacities are confirmed for the actual layout.

Installation planning

Provide curtain weight, finished length, full track span, opening direction, pocket or valance clearances, mounting structure and power location. Keep drapery clear of the floor and surrounding surfaces to reduce drag.

A quieter belt-drive alternative

For projects within its limits, a belt-drive system offers touch operation, manual override during a power outage and a built-in RF receiver. The supplied specification lists 100 lb for one-way draw, 140 lb for center opening, a maximum 36 ft track and approximately 6 in/sec movement. This is a separate system from the heavy-duty direct drive.

Frequently asked questions

Can the system turn a corner?

Selected track configurations can curve, with reduced capacity and geometry restrictions. Reverse curves shown in the general gallery are not promised for this heavy-duty system.

Can one motor suit any long span?

The complete system must be checked. Total curtain weight, track geometry, duty cycle, mounting and stacking determine the recommendation.
