PLUMRIDGE • INTEGRATION ROADMAPS
Roadmap Explained
Motorization terminology in plain English, for designers, clients and project teams.
From a Lutron button to a moving curtain
Confirm load, span, draw, bends, stacking and motor revision.
The integrator selects the supported interface and documents the command schedule.
Prove direction, stop behavior, limits and recovery using the intended controller.
Retain approved wiring, timings, addresses where applicable, and the final load and track specification.
Motor power, command wiring and track mechanics are separate parts of the roadmap. The sample proves that they work together.
What the wiring terms mean
| Term | Plain English |
|---|---|
| Dry contact | An isolated switch closure that sends a command. It does not power the motor. |
| NO / NC | Normally open / normally closed: the contact’s resting state. |
| Common | The shared return for control signals; not automatically mains neutral or earth. |
| CCI / CCO | An input receives a switch action; an output sends one. |
| Pulse / continuous | A brief command versus a contact held while movement is required. |
| Pinout | The precise purpose of each connector terminal. |
| Stop logic | The particular contact action required to stop a motor. Forest and heavy-duty 475 differ. |
Serial commands and feedback
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| RS485 | A wired serial motor bus. Commands are addressed messages rather than simple switch closures. |
| QS link | Lutron’s system link; it is separate from the Forest RS485 bus. |
| Address | An individual motor’s name on a serial bus. |
| Gateway | A controller programmed to translate between control systems and motor commands. |
| Scene | A programmed action, such as opening the curtains for a presentation. |
| Feedback | A returned position or status. Sending a command alone does not prove movement. |
| RF bridge | A radio control route that needs project-specific compatibility checks. |
Why the track specification matters
Hanging weight is the actual fabric, lining and heading load. Span is the track length. Draw describes one-way or center opening. Radius describes a bend. Stacking is the space the open curtain occupies. Double tracks require checked spacing, motor placement and clearance.
Who does what?
Plumridge specifies fabrication, track geometry, loads and sample hardware. The Lutron integrator confirms the system and interface, programs the commands and tests the behavior. Together we sign off the sample before the full installation.
For Roman shades, Plumridge can fabricate around the specified Lutron Roman shade kit after confirming its dimensions, lift arrangement and fabric requirements. Roller kits likewise need the correct tube, drive and finished specification.
