How to measure your furniture

Measure the furniture as it will sit under the cover. Keep the tape straight and record the actual outside dimensions. We will add 1 inch to each measurement for clearance. Please do not add this allowance yourself.

1. Width · left to rightMeasure across the widest outside points. Include armrests, projecting feet and any other parts that the cover needs to clear.
2. Depth · front to backMeasure the deepest outside points, including an angled back or rear legs. Measure horizontally, rather than following the curved surface.
3. Height · ground to topMeasure from the ground to the highest point. Tell us how far above the ground you would like the bottom of the cover to finish.

Measure the broad planes

W is the widest outside width. D is chair depth; L is chaise length. H is the back or head height and h is the front or foot height. S is the straight top span from back to front—hold the tape across the opening, without dipping into the seat.

The front is described by W × h, the back by W × H, and the top by W × S. Send a side photograph with the depth or length and both heights marked so we can check its profile. These drawings are measurement guides, not cutting patterns or to scale. Send actual furniture dimensions. We will add 1 inch to each measurement for clearance. Do not add the allowance yourself.

A little more detail for different shapes

  • Chairs and sofas: include the back height, arm height and widest overall dimensions. Tell us if cushions will stay underneath.
  • Dining tables: send the tabletop length and width, or diameter for a round table, plus the overall height. For a whole dining set, measure its outside footprint with the chairs in their usual covered position.
  • Chaises: measure the full length, widest width and maximum height with the back in the position you plan to cover.
  • BBQs: include side shelves and handles in the width and depth. Add the height of the closed hood and a front and side photograph. The grill must be cool before covering.
  • Benches: send overall width, depth and height; include a backrest and arms if present.
  • Spas: measure over the existing closed lid. Include the outside width, length, height and corner shape.
  • Sectionals: draw the layout from above and label the length and depth of each section, with the back and arm heights. Tell us whether you prefer separate covers or one cover for the arrangement.

Send your measurements through Design Consultation

Label each piece—for example, Chair A: 32" wide × 35 1/2" deep × 34" high · quantity 2. Add front, side and back photos, a simple dimensioned sketch, your preferred colour and any brand/model information.

In the consultation form, choose Other and enter Furniture covers, then paste the sizes into the Measurements box and add your photos or drawings in the upload field. If you have a 3D model, include a note stating its units and a dimensioned PDF or sketch so we can check the scale.

Furniture cover questions, answered.

Do covers fit down into the seats?

No. These covers slip over the furniture’s outside shape like a protective bag. The fabric spans across the seat opening, rather than following the individual cushion or upholstery contours.

How do I get a quote?

Send front, side and back photographs, the overall width, depth and height, and the number of pieces through our design consultation form. Include the furniture brand or model if you know it.

Can you cover an unusual shape or an entire set?

We can discuss individual furniture pieces, sectional layouts and complete sets. Complex shapes may need additional measurements or a template before the fit and price can be confirmed.

Are these covers 100% waterproof?

No. These are water-resistant protective covers, not 100% waterproof covers. Water can seep through stitched seams and needle holes, particularly during prolonged rain or where water pools. The fabric’s water resistance does not make the finished sewn cover watertight. Arrange the cover so water runs off and check underneath after wet weather.

Can condensation form inside the cover?

Yes. Hydrofend has a coating on the underside and is designed to balance water resistance with breathability. Even so, condensation can form inside when damp air meets a cooler surface, especially in humid conditions or when wet cushions or furniture are covered. Breathability does not guarantee a dry interior. Cover only dry furniture and cushions, allow ventilation, and lift the cover periodically to let moisture escape.

What is Hydrofend fabric?

Hydrofend Marine is a solution-dyed polyester cover fabric with a matte woven face and a coating on the back. Trivantage lists the standard fabric at 60 inches wide and 8 oz per square yard, with water repellency, breathability, and resistance to mildew and cold cracking. These are fabric specifications, not a guarantee that a finished stitched cover is waterproof. We will confirm the exact fabric and colour for your project.

How are covers secured in wind?

Tell us how exposed your furniture is. We will discuss suitable securing details and ventilation as part of the quotation rather than assuming one solution suits every location.

Should I bring my cushions inside during heavy rain?

Yes. If heavy or prolonged rain is forecast, we recommend bringing your cushions indoors or placing them in a dry, sheltered space, even when you use a furniture cover. Let damp cushions dry completely before storing them. Keeping cushions dry and protected when they are not in use helps preserve the fabric and filling and can help them last for many more years.

Can cushions stay underneath?

Tell us how you plan to use the cover. Cushions should be dry before covering, and moisture and ventilation need to be considered for your location.

Can I choose another colour?

Yes. The swatch gallery shows the colour range without printed labels. We will confirm your selection with a physical fabric sample before ordering; screen colours are approximate.

Is a spa cover a safety cover?

No. This is an outer protective textile cover. Keep the spa manufacturer’s insulated, secured safety lid and follow its instructions.

Can I order online?

Each cover is quoted after we review the size, shape, fabric and practical details. Delivery is confirmed separately through your consultation.

Do you also make replacement cushion covers?

Yes. Protective furniture covers and replacement cushion covers are different projects. Tell us whether you want to protect the whole furniture piece or replace the fabric on the cushions.

Protect it. Refresh it. Enjoy it.
