Choose light, fabric & fit

Light filtering cellular shade in a living room

Light filtering

Softens daylight while keeping the fabric visibly light. Privacy depends on fabric, lighting and the room’s conditions.

Blackout

Blocks light through the fabric. Light may still enter around the edges, so mounting position and overlap matter.

Cell size & texture

Simply stock shades use 9/16″ single-cell fabric. Custom shades offer more cell sizes and textures; compatible options depend on the control system.

Before ordering: mount, depth & length

Choose inside mount or outside mount when ordering. Inside mount fits within the window recess; send the narrowest opening width, opening height and usable recess depth. Outside mount fits on the face of the casing or wall; send the finished width and drop you want to cover, including the agreed overlap.

ShadeDepth to checkLength / drop
Custom CordlessStandard 9/16″ rail: ⅞″ minimum, 2″ flush with 9/16″ or 7/16″ fabric. Standard ¾″ rail: ½″ minimum, 2½″ flush with ¾″ fabric. Confirm the selected fabric and rail.Custom drop to order.
Simply Cordless, Top Down Bottom Up & Day/NightHeadrail: 1¾″ deep × 1⅛″ high. Total with bracket: 1⅞″ deep.48″ or 72″ stock drop; length is not shortened.
Both No-Tool Adhesive ShadesMeasure the recess and flat casing surface. Exact adhesive headrail depth will be confirmed by Plumridge before ordering.64″ stock drop; length is not shortened.
Simple LiftMinimum mounting depth: ½″. Flush-fit depth: 2¾″.Custom drop to order.
Cut-at-Home Pleated1½″ for a flush inside mount; check a suitable flat adhesive surface.Up to 64″; lower to the required height. Do not cut length.
Motorized CellularConfirm full headrail, bracket, motor and battery clearance for the selected system.Custom Rollease / Somfy: length made to order before manufacture; later shortening is not a standard alteration.
Who takes the ¼″ inside-mount deduction?

For inside-mount factory-cut orders, the factory deducts ¼″ (one-quarter inch) from the opening width in total, not from each side. Send the opening measurement without subtracting it yourself so the deduction is applied only once. For example, a 36″ opening gives a 35¾″ finished width. Outside-mount orders have no factory width deduction. Untrimmed stock shades are supplied at their labeled width without an automatic deduction.

Will the shade fit the depth of my window?

Measure the usable depth at the top of the window recess, allowing for window handles, stops and other obstructions. Check the complete headrail and bracket depth, not the fabric cell size. Adhesive shades also need a suitable flat surface on the casing; we must confirm their exact headrail depth before ordering.

Measure with confidence

Inside mount or outside mount?

Inside mounts fit within the window recess; measure at several positions and use the narrowest width. Outside mounts cover the opening from the face of the wall or trim. We will confirm overlap and mounting clearance for the selected product.

Can every shade be made to my exact size?

Custom Cordless, Simple Lift and custom Rollease / Somfy shades are made to an approved width and length before manufacture, within fabric and system limits. This does not mean they can be shortened later. Simply and No-Tool adhesive shades use stock drops with limited factory width trimming. Cut-at-Home is customer-trimmed to width using its supplied guide. Stock height cannot be shortened. Specialty shapes and skylights are made to approved dimensions or templates and need individual review.

Can removing an adhesive shade pull paint off the casing?

Yes. Both the adhesive cellular and adhesive pleated shades can pull paint off the window casing when removed. In our installation experience, this happens often. Plan for possible paint touch-ups and follow the supplier’s removal instructions. Careful removal does not guarantee that the paint will stay intact.

Who cuts the shade to fit?

For factory-trimmed Simply and No-Tool programs, the factory cuts a stock-size shade narrower to fit your window when we order the width-cutting service, within the product’s trimming limits. The shade arrives already cut; you do not need to trim it yourself. For example, a 36″-wide shade may be trimmed to 34″ wide where permitted. This changes the width only; the height stays at the stock drop. We arrange the width-cutting service after confirming your measurements. Cut-at-Home is different: the customer trims its width at home using the supplied guide; its length is not cut.

What should I send for a quote?

Send one photo per window, width and height measurements, your mount preference, quantity, preferred light control and color. For Simple Lift, include mounting depth and your preferred control side.

Cellular Shade FAQs

What does a 9/16″, ¾″ or 1¼″ cell size mean?

These are nominal fabric cell/pleat sizes, specified by the manufacturer and shown on the fabric sample. The measurement describes one repeating honeycomb fabric fold seen in the side profile. For example, 9/16″ is 0.5625 inch and ¾″ is 0.75 inch. It does not describe the width of your window, the overall shade length or the recess depth.

Why choose a different cell size?

Smaller cells make finer, more closely spaced horizontal lines; larger cells give fewer, broader pleats and often suit larger windows. The choice also changes the available fabrics, colors and compatible operating systems. Choose by appearance and the options available for your shade, then check its size limits and mounting-depth requirements separately.

Does a larger cell always insulate better or need the same mounting depth?

Insulation depends on the complete fabric, opacity and cell construction. Single cell has one layer of air pockets; double cell and cell-in-a-cell use a second layer or nested pocket. Cell size alone does not establish insulation performance or the space required by the headrail. Use the listed mounting and flush-fit depths for your selected shade and motor.
