Lutron | Forest Integration

Made for your project

Forest Shuttle motors can operate custom drapery through potential-free contact closures. A compatible Lutron interface can translate a programmed scene or keypad action into those motor commands. The interface, motor version and programming must be selected together; this is an integration project rather than a direct pairing of a Lutron remote to a Forest motor.

Custom specification and quotation. Power, mounting and control compatibility are reviewed before equipment is ordered.

Choose the motor

The 2025 Forest specifications list Eco (S), HD (M) and rechargeable iOn motors. Straight-track reference loads are 100 lb, 160 lb and 55 lb per motor respectively; curved-track reference loads are 90 lb, 120 lb and 40 lb. These are manufacturer maxima, not a guarantee for every installation.

Dry-contact integration

A potential-free relay or switch supplies open, close and stop commands. Dry-contact control does not provide position feedback. Keep motor power separate from the control contacts; never apply supply voltage to the dry-contact input.

Lutron interface choices

The supplied QSE-IO document describes a wired QS contact-closure interface with five inputs and five outputs. The supplied RadioRA 2 visor receiver document describes a wireless receiver with four contact-closure outputs. Your integrator must confirm the appropriate interface for the installed Lutron platform and program the required motor commands.

RS485 and feedback

Forest also documents an FX-bus RS485 route for compatible motors and third-party controllers. This is a separate serial integration path. A QSE-IO or visor contact-closure output does not itself provide RS485 communication or motor-position feedback.

Plan the installation

Confirm motor location, power supply or charging access, cable routing, drapery weight, heading, stack space and the exact Lutron processor and interface. For installer wiring, use the manual for the supplied motor and connector orientation.

Frequently asked questions

Will this work with every Lutron system?

No universal compatibility is implied. Share the exact Lutron platform and processor; the integrator verifies interface support and programming before equipment is ordered.

Can I see the exact drapery position?

The supplied Forest roadmap distinguishes serial feedback from dry-contact operation without feedback. Position reporting requires a supported feedback route and controller.
