What is Silk Habotai?
Silk Habotai is also know as China Silk. It was originally developed commercially
to make parachutes during the second word war. The fabric is very strong and
super light weight. It is often reffered to as parachute silk.
We weave the base fabric in the East and bring in GREIGE GOODS into the USA,
where the fabric is dyed into our specific fashion colors.
Momme weight is a way of measuring things developed by the Japanese.
It is the most common way of measuring light weight silk and is
pronounced much like the word “mummy.”
The standard for measuring momme weight is by using a piece of fabric that
is 100 yards long and 45 inches wide. If that piece of fabric weighs 19 pounds
then the momme weight of that silk is 19.
The higher the momme weight the heavier the fabric which means a greater
amount of silk was used in the weaving process.
This SILK HABOTAI is 8 MM and is about 30 grams per yard.
